Community of Practice

Many of you may already be aware of the fact that …..

SACME hosts monthly Regional Coffee Chats (over zoom) which provide an opportunity to informally meet with peers and colleagues to discuss common CPD issues and challenges. These calls, led by SACME’s regional representatives, offer CPD colleagues a wonderful forum and a way to see the concept of a “community of practice” come to life within our SACME membership. Participants on these calls can connect with other SACME members for an informal exchange of ideas, as the group discusses challenges, and offers potential solutions. Or, if nothing else, they offer support to one another coupled with an assurance that you are not alone.

What you may not know is that….

In the Northeast region, sometime ago, those discussions spawned off into an additional informal group who now meet regularly (2nd Wednesday of each month at 12:00 noon ET) to specifically discuss issues surrounding Joint Accreditation (JA).

The calls, which are hosted by Elizabeth Drury, Senior Program Operations Manager: RSS, Compliance and LMS at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine’s Barry M. Manuel Center for Continuing Education, typically draw 1-2 dozen CPD colleagues. The group gathering has the sole purpose of advancing our collective knowledge of JA so that everyone can learn from each other. This community of practice has proven to be of value by individuals representing organizations across the full spectrum of exploration and pursuit of Joint Accreditation.

Some participants are in the early stages of exploring the idea of pursuing (JA), others are preparing their application, some are coming up for renewal, while still others are seeking to understand and pursue the commendation criteria. As is true of the regional coffee chats, these JA calls provide a forum whereby Individuals can informally share their experiences and offer support to each other as we navigate the JA landscape.

If this JA Discussion Group (which has no geographic boundary) sounds like something of interest and you would like to join the calls, please contact Elizabeth directly at edrury@bu.edu.

It has been said that the sense of community is the most essential element in building a better world. Sometimes CPD can seem like a lonely profession. For more information about SACME’s Regional Coffee Chats, visit SACME.org/CoffeeChat. Remember, you are not alone!
