Dear Readers,

CE News is about to go through another transition. At the end of this year, I will be stepping down as Chief Editor after serving for 5 exciting years. I have enjoyed my tenure as Chief Editor which came to me quite by surprise and early in my retirement. It’s been a privilege to serve our Society in this way. At that start, I shared the chief-editor’s role with Martin Tremblay. He is a joy to work with—always giving sound and supportive advice through a challenging time of change.
Our older members will recall that CE News was begun by Dave Davis, MD, at the AAMC and was handed off to SACME when Dave retired. The old iteration was a list of live links to various CE/CPD resources and meetings. Initially, our only standing column was the Publications and Scholarship column, aptly edited by Bill Rayburn, MD for six years. Martin and I thought we should seek to transform CE News from a list to a more scholarly and traditional newsletter format with a variety of standing columns addressing the current trends and challenges in accredited CE. We continued our work toward this goal; we jettisoned the old and brought in the new. As a collateral member benefit of CE News, we developed the SACME Annual Meeting Proceedings Report, now heading into its fifth edition with the 2025 meeting.
Being an editor is often stressful and you are plagued with worry about the quality of your articles, whether the readers will appreciate what is published, and how to improve and distinguish each subsequent issue from the one preceding it. The “hunt” for interesting content is never ending! What I quickly realized is that publishing a newsletter for a national society is a team-based sport. Its success ultimately depends upon a dedicated and talented editorial team who serve as column authors and editors, and who are as committed to the newsletter as their chief editor. Thank you to our team–Craig, Joe, Holly, Natalie, Sophie, Helena, Vjeko, Raynor and Mila for your continued hard work, talent and support of CE News over the years. I am grateful to the team and to SACME for this challenging opportunity. I will cherish this role always and plan to continue as an active member of our editorial team perhaps writing feature articles and serving as a “roving reporter” of our growing program of virtual educational activities.
In closing, I am delighted to announce that Ginny Jacobs, PhD, who has served as our Co-Chief Editor for the past two years, will assume the leadership role as Chief Editor of the newsletter in December with the Winter issue. She will work to recruit a member to assist her manage the newsletter as Associate Chief Editor. Most of you know Ginny as she has been a long-term member of SACME, serving as president, past-president, board member, SACME Academy fellow, frequent Intercom author, as well as serving on many committees too numerous to count. I wish Ginny much success in her new role and I anticipate that she will bring a fresh perspective and creativity to the role. Ginny, no pressure, but we are expecting great things in the next iteration of CE News!
Happy and healthy holidays to all,
Robert
