Dear Colleagues,

In this special issue, the CE News’ editorial team is delighted to present you with the proceedings of the SACME 2022 Annual Meeting, February 21-23. Were you amazed by the quality of the work presented? The Planning Committee, under the leadership of Tym Peters, has certainly raised the bar with a program rich, diverse, and thought-provoking.  Some of the Annual Meeting highlights include:

  • Inspirational keynote speakers:
    • Michele Harper, MD (From child trauma to a transcendent healthful self)
    • Stuart Slavin, MD (Reclaiming agency in an out-of-control world)
    • Brenda Bursch, PhD (Finding the path back to meaning and joy)
    • James Makokis, MD (Indigenous health—probably the best session we have ever attended on this topic)
  • Technology to improve CPD education by the new Technology Enhanced CPD Working Group
  • A panel discussion on fostering a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Nearly 100 oral sessions and poster presentations
  • 2022 Distinguished Service in CME Award: Don Moore PhD

This annual meeting also marks the end of Betsy Williams’ term as SACME President as she passes the torch to David Wiljer for the next two years.  CE News’ editorial team is very grateful for her support as we transitioned from a traditional newsletter to a dynamic digital format with standing column editors.  Our goal remains to inspire and enhance the work of SACME members and we hope this issue will serve you as a guide to further reflect on the brilliant work presented during the conference.

Warm regards,

Robert and Martin

Advancing the Value of CPD:  Aligning CPD with Systems of Healthcare for Greater Systems of Impact

In this interesting session, the speakers outlined how CPD is the cornerstone for value creation in the healthcare system. However, admittedly, showing the value of CPD is not without its challenges. A case must be made for why we should invest in CME/CPD. Thus the question becomes, can the value of CPD be measured and quantified in a way that makes a convincing case for investing in CPD?

Letter from the Chief Editor

Dear Readers,

As you may have noticed, you didn’t receive a CE News Spring issue. Instead, you received our 2023 Annual Proceedings Report, filled with plenary session summaries, oral abstracts and poster presentations. If you didn’t have the opportunity to attend the 2023 meeting in Nashville either virtually or live, than we hope you will take a moment to review this report. Presently, the report is available to members and the public to download. In other news, I am delighted to announce two additions to our editorial team. Ginny Jacobs, PhD, a past SACME president and well-known in the CME/CPD community, has agreed to serve as Co-Chief Editor. We are so fortunate to have Ginny join the team and we look forward to her contributions both…
